How to Use The Coupons

The coupon code is used toward the end of the checkout process, but before you have paid. Here are the steps:

1. go through the checkout process, but before you pay stop at the Shopping Cart step 1 where you see your items listed
2. below the items in your shopping cart is coupon box that says “enter your promo or source code”. So enter the code from above and then click the orange button that says “apply code”

That’s it, and if for some reason a code does not work, try another from above and hit apply again until you receive the best discount for your order.

FED3 – $3.20 off every .COM (domain will cost just $7.49)

FED1 – 10% off any order (if ordering alot and different domain extensions)

Through out life you have no doubt heard the saying, “It’s now what you know but who you know” and that really is just as true in the porn business as with anything else. So how can you get to know others in this business? Simple, you network by visiting webmaster hot spots and these include message boards like Sponsor Chat dedicated specifically to getting to know your fellow adult webmasters or going to adult conventions. Each year the big one is held in Las Vegas every January. The show is called the Adult Entertainment Expo and if nothing else, you need to try and attend at least one of these shows during your career, for the experience. They have some seminars but they are pretty much worthless because the data is so slanted towards whatever company is hosting the event but at the booths you can often find some really good deals on products like legal content, SEO services, web hosting, website design, etc. At these shows these companies setup booths with the purpose of giving special deals, so take advantage of them!

Now adult shows aside, which aren’t always the most cost effective way to network, you need to find a message board to hang out on that isn’t full of drama or problems. I personally prefer Sponsor Chat because the people are really nice, helpful and most importantly, you rarely if ever find any of the drama or issues that tend to come up at most webmaster message boards. GFY is a good example of a webmaster board with great potential that just sucks because of all the drama and immaturity.

The point of an adult message board is to find other people in your similar situation and learn from them and maybe help each other out. I’ve made some great work buddies on these boards and over the years those buddies have really come through for me when I needed extra traffic for a promotion or needed some advice on a design.

So let’s say you find a board you like, you should always remember that you don’t get a 2nd chance to make a first impression so avoid being negative at all costs, no matter how tempting it is to do otherwise. If someone else is being rude, just ignore it and move on.

Made relevant posts. Don’t just spam your URL. Get involved in the conversations. Get to know others and chat back and forth about things they have posted. If they have a question you know the answer to, then post a reply with the answer to their question.

Whatever you do, don’t be a spammer. Put the name of your website and a link to it in your signature and then leave it at that. Just by the very nature of participating within the community, you will be promoting your website.

Follow these simple steps and before long you’ll be making great connections and deals that could really help your business.

As someone with more than a decade of experience being an adult webmaster I am always asked “What is your best advise for me?” It’s such a hard question because the answer really is different for every person. Where one guy may need help with one thing like traffic or SEO, another may need help with someone else like page layout. So I gave it a lot of thought, in an attempt to simply put, find an easy answer to that question … just something simple I could say that would pretty much apply to everyone and that is when it hit me ……

You Must Be Your Brother’s Keeper

What most new webmasters don’t seem to realize is that just like in real life, you are judged by the company you keep and will always be found guilty by association. This applies to search engine optimization and with the feds. Today I was searching for some new content to purchase. I was basically looking for some photo sets featuring either Chasey Lain, Racquel Darrian, Janine, Briana Banks or maybe even Christy Canyon. I went through about 11 different links of so called “premium” or “high quality” content providers, each really sucked. Either the site had a bunch of dead links or hadn’t been updated in years. It was very disappointing. So the next link I click on I find a few video clips for sale of a female pissing. I think to myself, pissing videos on the front page, really?! I back out of that site and go on to the next name on the list. But the question is, do you know why?

What does their illegal or questionable content have to do with me if I don’t buy it? It has EVERYTHING to do with me. If I were to buy a photo set of my favorite porn star from them, that obviously would not be illegal or even remotely questionable, and years down the line the feds bust these guys for the things they are selling that are illegal or questionable, they will cease their customer database and then I would be on the feds radar.

That may not seem like that big of a deal but trust me, it is. The last thing you want as an adult webmaster is to be on the radar of the feds. Nobody needs that hassle. Even if you do everything above board it could still cost you thousands of dollars on legal fees trying to prove you are above board.

This rule of judging who I associate myself with applies to everything I do in business and this includes the very smallest thing such as trading links. Let’s say you trade links with a website that does something illegal or stupid like buyign links and ends up getting banned from Google or any of the major search engines. Research shows that any sites they link to or that link to that site are given a penalty so sticking with the “guilt by association” rule, your SEO efforts just went down the toilet because you are associated with them, even though you personally did nothing.

In terms of SEO it has more to do with being in a “bad neighborhood” or beign associated with that “bad neighborhood”. This is also why you want your own IP address. If you share an IP with a website that does something retarded, then your website also suffers.

So in the end my advise is the same that I’m sure your parents always told you … it’s guilt by association so watch your associations. You must always be your brother’s keeper because if your brother does something bad, you will be punished too, maybe not as bad as him but his bad deeds could haunt you for many years to come.

The End of the Internet Is Near- IP Address Shortage, or so says a recent article in the London Times.

The end of the Internet is near — and in less than three years, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The reason? More than 85% of the available addresses have already been allocated and the OECD predicts we will have run out completely by early 2011.

These aren’t the normal web addresses you type into your browser’s window, and which were recently freed up by Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the body responsible for allocating domain names, to allow thousands of new Internet domains ending in, for instance, .newyork, .london or .xxx.

Beneath those names lie numerical Internet protocol addresses that denote individual devices connected to the Internet. These form the foundation for all on line communications, from e-mail and web pages to voice chat and streaming video.

When the current IP address scheme was introduced in 1981, there were fewer than 500 computers connected to the Internet. Its founders could be forgiven for thinking that allowing for a potential 4 billion would last for ever. However, less than 30 years later, the Internet is rapidly running out. Every day thousands of new devices ranging from massive web servers down to individual mobile phones go online and gobble up more combinations and permutations.

“Shortages are already acute in some regions,” says the OECD. “The situation is critical for the future of the Internet economy.”

As addresses run dry we will all feel the pinch: Internet speeds will drop and new connections and services will either be expensive or simply impossible to obtain. The solution to the IP address shortage is an upgrade to new addresses that can accommodate our hunger for online connectivity. Such a system, called IPv6, was agreed more than a decade ago, providing enough addresses for billions upon billions of devices as well as improving Internet phone and video calls, and possibly even helping to end e-mail spam.

So where are all these IPs going? Well a lot of places really but hundreds of thousands of them are wasted each and every day. What most people don’t know is that each website you have (ie: All4U.com) doesn’t have to have their own dedicated IP address. It could very well share an IP with 25 of their friends but in doing so you run the very serious risk of search engine penalties so “search search engine experts” advise that you get your own dedicated IP for every domain you own from your web hosting company. I mean after all, you don’t want to risk sharing an IP address with a website that just got banned from Google or black listed from Yahoo, now do you? Of course not!!

Although there is no other real “PROOF” that having your own IP improves your search engine rankings, experts are still convinced of it and to be honest, so am I. I’ve seen a website go from #34 to #7 just by moving the domain to its own dedicated IP. Could have just been a major coincidence but who really wants to take the risk of their sites losing search engine traffic for not having their own dedicated iP?

And herein lies the problem. So what is a good webmaster to do? The truth is, I don’t know. However I can tell you a few creative solutions that some webmasters may begin to resort to. This won’t help you if you are put in an IP block with a banned or search engine blacklisted website but it will help you with the “supposed” penalties from shared IPs. Basically let’s say you have 20 websites. In theory you would host them all on one server. Obviously that makes most sense but if we get forced to share IPs what will we ever do? You can take two or three of your websites and put them with other hosting companies. But this will cost you even more money per month. Use those websites hosted elsewhere and link back to your other sites created sort of a network of sites. This should help you with the websites that are getting minor penalties for shared IPs with your other website but you still run the risk of sharing an IP with a site run by someone who does something to get banned or blacklisted and then you’ll have a whole other mess on your hand but in the end, what else can you really do about it?

When it comes to search engine optimization for your website you will no doubt come across a lot of terms that are unfamiliar to you and organic search will no doubt be one of them. So what is an organic search? It simply means when someone types in a keyword or a keyword phrase in the search box and comes up with a listing of websites that are relevant to that term. The listings that are not paid listings, these are your organic searches.

For example, if you go to Google and search for the words Christy Canyon here is what comes up for me. (See image below) Notice Totally Christy as the #2 listing? This is a prime example of an organic search. They wanted to find content on Christy Canyon and got listings that were relevant yet not websites who paid to be there.

If you run a website, I would hope by now you know what Google Analytics is. If you don’t have it installed by now on your pages, you really should. It may not be 100% accurate with telling you how much traffic you have, but it is the most accurate free, remotely hosted counter I’ve seen. But that’s not really why you should use it. It is the extras that come with it, that can really help you out and that’s what this article is all about – well one specific feature and that is the Bounce Rate. A bounce rate is ….

1. Close the open window or tab or simply type in a new URL
2. Click Back Button, which would take them away from the website
3. Time-out, where no other action is taken after set time period (usually 30 minutes)

Why does a high bounce rate really matter?

Well it’s hard enough getting traffic to your website in the first place so if the traffic you do gets leaves as soon as they get to you, then you are doing something wrong. Ideally you want to have such a high quality site that the people you attract want to visit all the pages you designed and love them so much they don’t mind spending money with your advertisers!

I read somewhere that the average bounce rate is around 50%. Anything at 50% or higher means people just aren’t sticking around at your site. This typically means you need to work on improving the quality of your website. Anything below 30% means you have an extremely high quality website and are attracting the type of traffic for the content you have. This is great. 25% EVEN better but almost unheard of and should be a goal you work towards.

There are a few reasons why having a good Google bounce rate matters. First and foremost is pride in what you do! You should be proud of the work you do and work to improve it. Don’t you want to run a high quality website?

Next is because the quality of your website can greatly determine your profits. A higher quality website is obviously more likely to attract repeat customers as well as customers interested in paying for something you are offering. Quality websites always convert to higher profit margins.

And last but not least is because your bounce rates may also play a part in your rankings on keywords for search engines like Google. There is now some evidence to show that on highly competitive keywords, sites with a lower bounce rate get a higher ranking. So improving the quality of your website can help you get even more traffic.

So with knowing that, now comes the time to work on improving your bounce rate. Look closely at your site and try and imagine why someone coming to your website wouldn’t stay. Does your page take to long to load? Do you have more banners than content? Is your site confusing in the navigation department? Do you have custom 404 error pages? These are all things you should look at and consider when trying to improve your bounce rating.

If you hadn’t noticed there is a whole hell of a lot going on in the porn world right now and it all has to do with legalities and several of your peers are on trial right now for a little thing called “obscenity”.

Most people have probably heard about the Max Hardcore trial but he’s not the only one. In fact right at this very moment there are no less than 10 obscenity trials going on and at least two that i know of have already ended this year with guilty verdicts. And you know what? It does matter to you because for every conviction they get on somebody else, the easier it gets to nail you.

That is why it is important that you start cleaning up your act right now. First and foremost look at where your web servers are located. Max Hardcore had no idea he had some of his web hosting done in Florida. That’s how they were able to prosecute him in a state which is known for this big time porn restrictions. Despite the fact that he himself had never once mailed anything to anyone in Florida they were able to nail him on TEN COUNTS OF OBSCENITY because he hosted some of his websites there and he never even knew it.

Where are your websites hosted? Are they sitting on a server somewhere in some state that is known for obscenity convictions like Florida or anywhere down south, particularly Oklahoma? If so, CHANGE WEB HOSTING COMPANIES NOW. Find one that hosts your websites in a more liberal state like California.

Next, look at the content on your website. Are you confident that every single girl on your website is over 18 and are you able to prove it?

If YOU host the image you need the records. Your records are your responsibility. It does not matter if you did not produce the content, if you are hosting it on your website you are going to be able to prove she is over 18 with the required proper documentation. That is typically a model release and two forms of identification such as a driver’s license and passport and to take it a step further in light of the Joe Francis of Girls Gone Wild fiasco, a video of her signing your model release, then holding her IDs and stating to the camera, I CONFIRM I AM OVER 18 AND THAT I AM NOT LYING, THIS IS MY REAL ID AND I SIGN THIS DOCUMENT OF MY OWN FREE WILL AND AM OF THE LEGAL AGE TO DO SO. Then take an additional photo of her holding her two valid forms of ID and keep a printed copy of that photo with all your other documents including that video.

Next keep an eye out on the webmaster boards and gossip websites. If you hear of rumors that some girl may be using a fake ID, ACT ON IT. For example one of the biggest porn stars in our business at one time was in fact found to be using a fake ID. You can read part of the story at Mike South.com.

As the story goes, Wicked contract star Jessica Drake went on a photo shoot and presented the photographer two forms of ID. The names weren’t the same exactly so it made him question the validity of her id. This photographer called up a few friends of his who also happened to have worked with Jessica Drake in the past and they compared IDs that she had given each of them and they all were different! As each of them had different names and birthdays they knew they had a problem and since she was under contract with Wicket pictures, a well known and reputable movie company they had no choice but to go digging for the truth with them. Wicked Pictures for some reason refused to work with them on fixing the situation and instead sent the photographers a nasty letter from their lawyer.

The problem isn’t that she might have been underage, but that the records they had of her were invalid and even if she was clearly over 18 at the time, it doesn’t matter. The law is the law and if you know someone’s 2257 records are invalid you can’t use the photos. She screwed those people who paid her to take those photos because without valid ID from her they can’t use those photos without risk of going to jail.

So back to my point, you have to keep up with the people you are posting on your website. As far as I know (AND I AM NOT A LAWYER) if you are just linking to free hosted galleries then you don’t need to keep up with 2257 records. The main point I’m trying to make is PLAY IT SAFE. Your mother has no doubt said it a million times when you were growing up and holds true as an adult as well …

It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

With almost everything bad that can happen to you, people tend to be of the mindset that “it can’t happen to them” and those are the very same people that go posting like mad when it does happen to them. So let me save you some headache and stress and just tell you right here and now ………

IT CAN AND WILL HAPPEN TO YOU. IT’S JUST A MATTER OF WHEN!

What am I going on about? Well it’s about theft. No, not identity theft that you hear about on TV all to often, but domain name theft. The experts say that 1 out of 3 people in the U.S. will fall victim to some sort of identity theft in their lifetime. I would venture to say that a good half of those fall victim because they do stupid stuff like click on links to phising sites that they get via email.

Now before you get all smug and think you are above all of this … that you would never do anything that stupid …. well let me tell you a good number of adult webmasters do something just as stupid every single day and that is they use a free email service such as Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail for their domain name accounts.

Free email accounts are great because they are free, but they are also vulnerable to attacks, hackings and exploits that normal email accounts don’t tend to be. This means that you are putting all of your domain name account information at risk of being exposed and that means you are making it easy for a domain name hijacker to steal your domain names and there is every chance in the world that once they are gone, you can’t get them back.

The domain name message boards are full of guys flipping out because they lost their domain names this way and they are quick to blame the registrars like GoDaddy when in reality they only have themselves to blame.

So what can you do to keep your accounts protected? Keep the email address that you use for your domain name account secret. Don’t use it anywhere else except for your domain names and don’t let it be one of those free email accounts like Yahoo email, Hotmail or Gmail. Make sure the password on that email account is very hard to guess. Don’t use a word from the dictionary and always use a combination of letters and numbers. The password should be a minimum of 8 characters long as well. monitor this email address closely and you will have improved the security of your domain name account ten fold.

It’s true, you COULD be the next Joe Francis but by that I don’t mean be rich and famous, I mean the Joe Francis that sat on his ass in jail for the last year because he didn’t have all his paperwork lined up. I think for the most part, we all agree that Joe Francis from Girls Gone Wild got screwed down in Florida that was in essence a battle over 2257 regulations.

But don’t think it can’t happen to you too because it very well can! I can’t tell you how many webmasters I have spoken to that are convinced the feds only went after Joe Francis because Girls Gone Wild is such a big brand and that the government wanted to make a point. And perhaps that is true but what you dont realize is that they also like to have examples of cases they have convicted people on and for those sure fire convictions you think they go after the big boys with the big lawyers? HELL NO! They want to line up as many small guys who can’t afford to hire big time lawyers to defend them for quick and easy convictions. And you are stupid if you think anything else. You CAN be busted for 2257 just like Joe Francis.

So what should you do to prevent that? Make sure that you have the proper documentation on every single model on your website. By that I mean a model release, a copy of two forms of ID and a photo of the girl holding the ID, and a photo or video of the girl signing the model release. Some people (the smart ones I say) will even go as far as getting a video clip of the girl saying things like …

Hi! My name is X and I certify that I am over 18 years of age. Here is my two forms of id to prove that I am over 18 and I am who I say I am (zoom in on it), and here is the release I just signed (zoom in on it). I am 100% for sure, without a doubt over 18 years of age.

Then they keep that footage on file with the girls other documents. That way if anything ever comes of it, you can show a court that YOU made every effort to prove the girl is over 18 years of age. It may seem like a big hassle but that video clip may be the one thing that keeps your ass out of jail or more importantly, keep prosecutors from bothering to file charges against you in the first place, as you may not longer be the easy conviction they were hoping for so they may just very well move on.

If you are a webmaster who purchases already made content, don’t just assume someone, somewhere has the legal documents you need to stay out of jail stored safely away. GET COPIES! Be responsible for your own destiny. Don’t just hope the people you buy content from has it taken care of.

If you aren’t sure you have what you need, don’t just assume, HIRE A LAWYER. Even if just for an hour or two, so that they can review what you have and make sure you are in the clear as far as legal paperwork goes.

In the end you have to remember that you are in a unique industry that isn’t as simple as running a small business that is perhaps in another industry. We have a lot of regulation surrounding everything we do and we need to be extra careful that we pay attention to those things because as easy as it is to make money doing what we do, it’s just as easy to lose it all as well.

When you tell people that you are new to the adult industry and want to know the best way to start they typically say create a TGP or create a blog. (TGP means thumbnail gallery post for those of you who don’t know). At heart both of these are the same type of website, whereas both websites are offering free porn to the visitors to their site.

This is however a vast difference between the two type of websites and that is where you find out if you will learn a hard lesson the hard way, or much softer.

TGPs where something we did in the industry many, many years ago. For the most part it’s been done to death and 99.99999% of them are totally and completely worthless pieces of crap. TGPs only work in one format (posting a page for of thumbnail) and the very nature of their existence, attracts people that typically don’t want to pay anything for their viewing pleasure and that means they want you to give them something for free.

So how are you going to make any money then? So if you can’t really make that much money, what’s the point of running the site in the first place? Truth be told, TGPs by and far have the worst sales ratios I’ve ever seen. 1:3000 is not uncommon with a decent TGP and in many cases, the numbers are much worse. I’ve seen decent looking TGP sites that perform at around 1:5000.

Blogs are also free sites giving away free porn but the difference tends to be not only the design but also the source of the traffic. Unlike TGPs, most blgos are very niche specific. For example, have you seen the Asian porn site called Eat My Sushi? Well, it is a blog, that specializes in, well … asian porn stars. Although there are many companies that offer software to run a site like this, that site happens to use Wordpress. They take a porn star, make a post about her and provide a link to some photos of that starlet. Now here is where the important part comes in. The part where they talk about the girl. The text … yes, the TEXT (not the photo) is the most important part of that post. I want you to look at a post they have for the Asian porn star Charmane Star.

Do you know why on that page the text is important? Because my friend … that is all Google sees. Google doesn’t give a crap about looking at pictures of pretty girls. Google likes text. Consider Google like the Cookie monster and text like little chocolate chip cookies. It eats one or two and then wants more and more and more and more. The more you give it, the happy you make the cookie monster. And trust me, Google is one big cookie monster that you want to make happy!

So the hardest part of running a blog is trying to come up with something unique and special to say about every single post you make.

You never want to include less than one text paragraph per post. You always want to try and include as much text as possible that is relevant to the person or thing you are posting about. If you could type 5 paragraphs per post, you are so golden!

Google does not like identical or duplicate content (it likes cookies that are unique because that makes them special), so don’t copy text you’ve seen from other sources. It must be different.

Always remember that you may be designing your page for the web surfers that come your way but without making the search engines happy first, they aren’t going to be sending you any web surfers in the first place.

When writing blog posts, do not use the pre-typed up descriptions that affiliate programs have given you. They will be considered duplicate content by the search engines and cost you a penalty. The hardest job an adult blogger has is trying to figure out how to describe a set of photos or video clips about some whore in the longest, most descriptive way possible and let me tell you, that is not an easy task.

Always have more content than you do ads. A good website (blog or not) always has more content than they do outgoing ads and if you don’t it can hurt you with the search engines. QUALITY MATTERS and only a fool would think otherwise. Search engines do know what your bounce rate is and that can greatly play into the quality of your website so if your website is icky then why would Google or any search engine for that matter, want to list you at the top of their search results?

There is a point to a new webmaster running a blog and that is to learn the lessons that one needs to learn to become an experienced webmaster. You learn the terminology, a little bit of coding, the ins and outs of hosting companies and how to deal with affiliate programs. You learn about stats and the importance of having them. You learn about basic search engine optimization. There are just so many little things you learn with your first collection of websites and that is why most people say when you are new to create a TGP or a blog. But in reality, you should avoid running a TGP because well, it’s crap and you will be wasting your time. Instead trying running a blog about a very specific theme. You want to specialize your blog with a very specific niche.

Create at least 4 to 5 new posts per week and when set a goal to have at least 1,000 posts in your database before you drop to posting less than 4 to 5 new posts a week.

Don’t obsess about page rank, it will come when it comes and I assure you it’s not half as important as most people make it out to be. However that being said, don’t ever hesitate to trade one or two links with sites like your own. Just be picky about it and only trade links with other high quality blogs. The last thing you need is to get your link listed on some crappy link dump kind of website. It’s better to trade links with two decent websites, than 2,000 crappy ones.

There is a lot of money to be made in porn and no I don’t mean what you may think. I mean for those of us already established in the business. Most webmasters miss out on so much money simply because they aren’t paying attention.

Did you know that this week, on top of my normal earnings I got an XBOX 360 and $100 bonus? It’s true!! What did I do to earn such riches you may ask? Well it was really rather simple …. I PAID ATTENTION.

All day long, “affiliate mangers” are paid by our sponsors to come up with fabulous ideas to get us to send our traffic over to them. For the most part these ideas are all pretty much the same, such as FREAKY FRIDAY, get $25 bonus for every sale you make this Friday. And if you are making decent sales with them already or have some traffic to spare then this really might be great for you but for the rest of us, they are just another promotion in the line of many that we don’t give a crap about.

However that being said, that doesn’t mean we need to stop paying attention because every once in awhile something great will come along that will make us some extra cash and just a few weeks ago one such a promotion.

An affiliate manager from Python made a post at GFY about something they called coupon tube. I thought to myself, what the hell is coupon tube so I clicked the link and read on. In short, those who had an account with Python and made a post got issued a coupon book. This book was full of coupons generated at random that one could redeem for various things such as $100 cash, $250 cash, $100 per sign up, $75 per sign up, $60 per sign up, an Ipod Shuffle and things like that. You decide which coupon you want to use. If you had a really good week in sales that wee, of course you would want to turn in your $100 per sign up coupon, or maybe one week things are a little slow so you turn in your $250 cash coupon. As an added bonus, every coupon book came with a bonus coupon that was like a special prize. It included trips for two, an XBOX 360, a Sony PS3, an Ipod Nano, $1000 cash, $500 cash, $2500 cash and things like that. Exactly what coupons you get are random but you get to control which coupons you use and when. By the way if you have an accout at Python, contact Stephen J and see if you can still get it on this promotion. I’m not sure but it may be worth a try.

So the question is, what does all of this mean to you and how can you benefit from any of this? Well, PAY ATTENTION. Read the webmaster boards and news sites at least once a day and keep an eye out of affiliate mangers making posts offering special deals. Read the posts carefully and all the fine print. 90% of the time it won’t be worth the effort, but that 10% is what you are looking for. Take advantages of the specials and promo deals they are offering. Sometimes they are cash ($100, $500 or even $5,000) and sometimes they are items like DVD players, Ipods, or Nintento WII’s. But even better, sometimes they bonuses can be trips to places like Miami, LA, New York City or Las Vegas. I once had a friend years ago who won a trip for two to Las Vegas from an affiliate program (Mallcom). It was really nice. She even got tickets to some show that was there at the time she really wanted to see. I can’t remember the name of it for the life of me but anyway the point is, READ WEBMASTER BOARDS DAILY and keep an eye out for news specific to programs that you may want to deal with.

Some industry boards and news sites …

You don’t have to get involved with others, or make posts – just read and read it often. Keep up to date with what is going on in our industry and you will be surprised how much you can learn and cash in on when it comes to affiliate program bonuses.

I have gotten this question a lot over the years …. “what is my traffic worth?”. Basically the most recent time is that a guy wanted to charge for ad space on his website but didn’t know a fair price. Prior to this he had never had anyone offer to pay him for a banner spot on his pages, he had just sent all of his traffic to affiliate programs. So he came to me in hopes that I could help him figure out the value of that banner spot.

The answer to the question is that it depends on a variety of factors. The main question you want to ask yourself is, how much money would having a banner in that spot earn you by sending that traffic to an affiliate program?

The next question you should ask yourself, is a banner ad really the best solution? Look at my website, and you might notice a lacking of banner ads. Know why? Well for the most part because I find them horribly tacky but also because banners aren’t really that effective, so why waste your time with them? Well banner ads in the way that most people use them.

I actually do generate money from this website, but not in the way that most people would think. Instead of just throwing up random banner ads, I instead well promote a company only in exchange for valuable information that could help another webmaster. So that means if you want to get your ad up at All4U.com, you have to help me come up with some great advise to share with other webmasters and in return, your website name and a link to your website will go in that article and will stay on my website as long as I keep the advice posted at my website. I found this to be way way way more effective for those spending the money to advertise with me and it has the added benefit of helping webmasters and making those tacky banner ads not needed on my website.

The point of me telling you all of this, is that I want you to think outside of the box. Not every ad has to be a banner although sometimes having a banner ad is just what works for your page design and that’s ok too.

So let’s move on to putting a price tag on that advertising space. If you were to put up your favorite and by favorite I mean best producing affiliate program banner in that very spot, how much money would it earn you?

You should know how many unique visitors per day your website gets, as well as how many page views. ie: 1 person could look at 11 different pages so that means you have 1 unique visitor and 11 page views. You also want to know the source of your traffic and the location. For example my Racquel Darrian website gets 54.8% of its traffic from Google, and 24% from Yahoo. So a large portion of all the traffic generated for that website comes from those two sources. As far as location goes, 89% of my traffic come from the United States. You can list off your top 3 if you want, and you do want if that number is below 85%. They really just want to see that your traffic isn’t coming from crappy scam countries.

Now that you know how many visitors a day your website has, and where the traffic is coming from, you want to know how many of those people will click through to visit your sponsor.

I have a good friend who let me peak at the stats on their website which had 215,930 uniques for January 2008 and it sent 48,300 uniques to their sponsors. That means that website sends 22.37% of their unique visitors to the paid sponsors. That is your sponsor click through ratio (22.37%) for that banner spot and now you want to know how much that earns you.

Using this example website again, if you send over 48,300 uniques, that’s about 1,558 unique visitors per day on average. This website made $3,580.80 that month with those visitors or an average of about $116 per day which works out to be about $.07 per unique visitor.

You want to do what is best for you but you also want to do what is best for your client because if they aren’t happy they won’t come back. So with that in mind know that you can’t afford to earn less money so you can’t take anything less than $3,580.80 for that banner spot but you logically want to earn a little more because for way less hassle you could just keep sending your traffic to the affiliate program. So you round up and say that they can have the banner spot for about $.08 per unique click.

Notice I didn’t give a flat number like $700? Well because you want to do what is best for your client and by that they should make them the offer to pay you only for the traffic you generate for them. In this case I would say they can pay you $.08 per unique click you send them, not to exceed $4,000. So if that month you happen to have some extra traffic, they get to enjoy it for free as the maximum you are going to charge them is $4,000 for that banner spot that month.

So why not just flat out charge them $4,000? Well because you want to build good relationships with advertisers and if you have an off month and your traffic sucks that month for whatever reason and there could be many reasons that could happen, the peopel paying you for those premium banner spots aren’t getting screwed.

Title 18, § 2257, are really just shorthand for a law in the United States that revolves around the models involved in sexual activity being over 18 years of age.

Title 18 U.S.C. 2257 is the Record-Keeping Requirements Compliance law. In which (without getting to legal) states that you need to have proof that a model is over 18 years of ago if they are involved in anything sexual. Specifically Title 18, section 2257 states …

All models, actors, actresses and other persons that appear in any visual depiction of actual sexual conduct appearing or otherwise contained in the “website” were over the age of eighteen years at the time of the creation of such depictions. All other visual depictions displayed on this website are exempt from the provision of 18 U.S.C. 2257 and 28 C.F.R. 75 because any of said visual depictions which appear to be of sexually explicit conduct are merely simulated. With respect to all visual depictions displayed on this website, whether of actual sexual conduct, simulated sexual content or otherwise, all persons in said visual depictions were at least 18 years of age when said visual depictions were created.

So what exactly does that mean to you? Well the answer to that really depends on exactly what kind of website you run and what type of content you have. In short, you want to always know for a 100% fact that every model who appears on your website, male or female is over the age of 18 at the time they took the photo or performed in your video. You not only want to know for a fact that they are over 18 but you want to have proof of it.

If you are not the primary producer of the content – like say you have some affiliate content on your site from some sponsor, you want to damn well make sure that you trust them enough to have the required data on file. In most cases, the person who produces the content keeps all those types of records on file but in some cases, they affiliates themself also keep a copy if they are going to display the photos / videos on their website.

So what exactly do you need? Well first you need a signed model release. This is basically a document that states they are in fact over 18, not drunk or high and are fully aware of what they are signing, how much they are to be paid for the photo shoot and they agree that you the photographer own all the rights to the photo / videos they are about to make with you. The model release at the very bottom must include the date, the name of the model (printed), their signature, their social security number and one or two witnesses.

Then if all of that wasn’t enough, they must then provide you with two forms of valid ID, one should be a state issued identification card or a driver’s license. The other form can be something like a credit card in their name or their social security card. You must have a copy of these to include in their file and the copy of these must be legible so be very careful here when making copies. You want to make sure everything can be read. You then want a photo of them holding these two forms of ID and then it would probably be a good idea to photo / video then signing the model release stating I AM OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE verbally (if shooting the model release video).

Also in some cases they have asked that you gather the other names the person has performed under. Like with Lanny Barby, she has performed under the names Lanny Barbie and Lani, so you would include those names in your file for her.

Record keeping is a very time consuming job but it is important because it is the one thing that can keep your ass out of jail if the feds come knocking at your door and trust me, it *CAN* happen to you. Don’t think that it won’t. GET LEGAL AND STAY THAT WAY. Make sure that every model that appears on your website is over 18 and be ready to back it up with hardcore proof. This is especially the case with webmasters who run those “teen” websites because they are looked at more closely than say someone who runs a MILF site where the girls are very clearly over 25.

What is an outbound link you ask? Well an outbound link is a search engine optimization term that refers to how many sites link to your website. If 23 pages across various websites link to yours, then you have 23 outbound links.

Notice I said pages and not websites. That is because one website can provide you with multiple outbound links. If one website links to your site 6 times … 1 time on 6 different pages, it is likely that the search engines will count that as 6 different outbound links.

So what does having outbound links matter to you? Outbound links are used in various ways with search engines. Outbound links helps to determine your page rank, it also helps to determine relevance to certain keyword phrases, based on the text of the link. For example if I were to make a link to my site Live Naked Men, it becomes an outbound link and improves the relevance for that site for the keywords Live Naked Men.

In theory the more outbound links you have, the better. But there are a few fine parts to that rule that you need to pay attention to. First and foremost, you don’t want to be a part of a site that has more outgoing links than it has content. Search engines might see that website as a link farm and penalize you for being a part of it.

Next make sure that the links are relevant, not only in what the title of the link is from their site to yours, but that their site is at least remotely related to yours. You want blonde tits sites to link to your blonde tit site. If the two sites linking to each other are similar in nature then some experts say the links are worth way more to you when it comes to SEO.

I need to be clear here because this is an area that so many webmasters make a mistake in. You should trade links with websites that are similar in nature to your own, but they don’t have to be exactly the same. If I have a site about blondes showing their tits and you have a site about blondes with big tits and we were to trade links, it would benefit both of us greatly.

It does not matter what either of the sites look like … what matters is that the search engines relate blonde and tits and that each of our sites link to each other. That means we are both more relevant for those related search terms. How much more relevant varies on a wide number of factors. But that’s another article all together. For now you just need to know that when trading hard links you want to trade with sites that are remotely related in theme to your own. The more related, the more important the link is.

One final note is to be careful. There is the good old guilt by association rule which basically means you want to check EVERY site you are about to trade links with in Google and Yahoo. If that website is nowhere to be found in either of those search engines you don’t want to trade links with them because they could be banned and there is some evidence that any site associated with banned sites gets penalized. So avoid sites that don’t already appear in search engines.

On a final note on this subject, do not pay to get listed with any site, nor do you want to trade links with any website that charges money for text links. Paying for links for the sole purpose of search engine optimization is not a legal practice with Google and probably other search engines and could very well get you banned. DO NOT PAY FOR LINK TRADES. DO NOT CHARGE FOR LINK TRADES. Is that one link really worth getting banned from Google? Trust me, it’s not. No one link is worth that.

Now all of that aside, let’s talk about your own network of websites. Did you know that you can help your own outbound links? If you run more than one site, you sure can! You may have heard of people running “blog networks”. This is partly why some of them do it.

Let us say that you have MySite-A.net. It doesn’t really matter what you have there, it could be a free site, that you make money on from sponsors or a membership site – just that it is your main site. You create a new site called MySite-B.net. You make this into a blog site where you post random ramblings about a topic similar in nature to your other website, MySite-A.net. Out of the 337 posts on MySite-B.net, you mention your other website, MySite-A.net in 7 of those posts. Those too count as outbound links. The one thing you need to make sure of those so you don’t get an association penalty, is that both MySite-A.net and MySite-B.net are on their own IPs. If both sites are on the same IP then much evidence has shown that search engines know the sites are run by the same person and doesn’t really give much weight to the links.

Some people prefer to build their own collection of websites rather than waste time trying to trade links with other relevant websites, simply because the one thing you learn with experience is that trading links sucks. The second you put up their link, they take down yours or they go under and their website is no longer around. It really really really is just a hassle. I traded 27 links at Klub Kelli in 2007, out of those 27 real link trades, only 7 still have my link up and as such, I have theirs in return. 20 out of those 27 dropped my link without notice or they went out of business. What a total waste of my time! There are some webmasters who try and trade 10 links a day – so just imagine how much time they wasted with ratios like that!

But no matter what you do, build your own network of websites or trade links all day long, you still need to network with other websites to be valid.

If you do want to build your own network of websites remember to take advantage of offers from affiliate programs that offer free hosting. You can build a website, with some great links to your own main website and it costs you nothing because they host your site for free. I host my porn star site Free Tory Lane with the affiliate program Bling Bucks. I get the benefit of a website in my network to build up relevant links to my other wises, while they pay for the hosting. All I have to do in return is promote their website within my pages of that website, which is super easy since they also provide a lot of the content I used to build the site itself.

An age old question in our business is which is better, rev share of pay per sale? Well first let us define what each program is. Rev share means that you share in the revenues generated from a customer. Typically that means you get X % of whatever the customer pays per month to be a member of that site. The good news is, you earn that money for the life of that customer so if that person stays a member of the site for a year, you are earning $x per month for an entire year! With a program like Bling Bucks. they pay 60% so if you make a sale. Basically you get paid $17.97 per membership (per month) with a console free tour sale.

PPC or Pay Per Click simply means they pay you for every click you send them (unique visitor). There are very few programs who do this to the high rate of fraud but the ones that do typically pay anywhere between $.01 and $.03 per click. The highest I’ve ever seen was $.05 but there were alot of terms and special conditions involved.

Pay per sale simply means you are paid a flat amount of money for every sale you make. This is a set amount, paid one time, not over the life of the sale however it is typically higher than what you earn. The payouts are varied but basically I prefer the console free tours so I typically make about $25 per sale. I could make more but I don’t like to send my surfers to a site with tons of pop ups. It’s tacky and I feel it devalues the quality of my sites.

Anyway so basically what we have is a one time $25 per sale, or $17.97 per month or $.03 per click. We know that statistically the average member will stay a member of a site for 6 months. So that one member is really worth $107.82 but you don’t get it all right away and that is in essence the down side. You get that money paid out over 6 months.

Some people would rather have less money per sale simply because they earn it all, right now. But those people are short sided. They don’t see the long run and that just because the “average” person may stay a member 6 months, you still have quite a few who are going to stay members for 1 year or even 2 years. So you are still earning $17.97 per month, for that guy for that long. Through Bling Bucks, I’ve had one guy stay a member for the last 19 months. That means I have made $341.43 off of one guy!

So for those using pay per sale (PPS), you aren’t doing that math and you are only hurting your bottom line as a result. Don’t throw away good money because you think you will make more in the short term, because you really don’t.

I want to show you the real numbers for one of my smaller sites. Five months ago I sent 1719 unique visitors to the program and got 3 sign ups. Those 3 people are still a member of the site.

PPC (at $.03 per click) = $51.57 (total)

PPS (at $25 per sale) = $75.00 (total)

Rev Share (at $17.97 recurring per sale) = $53.91 first month and total = $269.55
